John McClure b. in Scotland & emigrated to Ireland during the religious
uprising in Scotland. In a Genealgoy of the McClure family, there is arecord
of a Martin McClure, who lived in Balmaghil in Kirkcudbirghtshire abt1750; he
is buried there. He had 5 sons: 1. Wm. 2. John 3. David 4. Robert 5.Andrew:
all of whom came south. While the fact has not been definitelyestablished,
this Martin McClure is in all probability the father of our JohnMcClure.
The names of his brothers are the same names given to his sons. Md.Rebecca
Ewing, 1790 emigrated to Am. On their arrival in Am. they first settlednear
Baltimore, MD. Later they went to VA settling near Lynchbur. From therethey
went to Washington Co. TN & located near Doakes College.
