Yetive Ramsey History: "John McCracken, was born in Washington Co., Tenn,at
Washington, April 15,1811 & d. Feb 4, 1897. He received the rudiments of
education in Washington Co., Tenn., and remained with his parents until21
years of age, when he began to farm for himself. He learned theblacksmith
trade and followed this for about 10 years, but the balance of the timehe has
been engaged in tilling the soil, exceot when in the Flordia War of1835. John
was a private in the company commanded by Capt. Absalom Bishop, in the
Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, commanded by Col. Nelson. He enlisted at
at Spring place, GA for the term of 12 mo. and was honorably dischargedat
Coosa River, Ala., Sept. 1836.
He was 5Ǝ" tall, gray eyes, light hair and fair complexion. After
the service he resided 3 yrs at Cleveland, Tenn. and the remainder ofhis life
in Kingston, Madison Co., Ark. (Attorneys: Berry & Roberts, Huntsville,AR -
Attest: Wm. Walker & Hosea Parker - both age 64 in 1892)
July 5, 1832 he married America Nancy Henry, who was born in Ray Co.,Tenn.,
in 1810, and died in Madison Co., Ark., in 1840, leaving 3 children. In1889,
the deceased were Mary and Nancy. The living was William H. McCrackenwho
was never well after having 'brain fever' and was raised byhalf-sisters.
In 1842 Mr. McCracken married 2) Mary Buren KENNER Henderson, widow ofRobert
Henderson.
John McCracken was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South,for
fifty years or more and always took a great interest in church affairs.He was
a Whig previous to the was, but since then has been a Democrat. He was a
member of the Masonic fraternity, and held different positions. In1889, he
owned 260 acres of land, the greater portion being cultivated andalthoug he
lost heavily during the war, his house being burned, property destroyedor
stolen, he went to work with renewed energy and became a prominent,leading
farmer of Kings River Township. He had a hotel in Kingston."

be married so the owners worked a trade so they could establish a home.This

married Joseph Hamilton after Alexander Sr. died. We only a fewmonths ago
received information from John H. Johnson, a descendant of JohnPatton and
Mary Mccracken. This is the kicker. Margaret McCracke was thedaughter of
John Mary McCracken Patton. John died. Mary then married AlexanderAdams
Sr. Then she married Joseph Hamilton. Therefore Margaret McCracken,who
