2. James J. 'Jim'² Payne (William M.¹) was born in Missouri 1835. James died 1861 in Civil War, at age 26.

He married Sophia Dorcas McCracken 1859 in Madison Co., Arkansas. Sophia was born February 22, 1843 in Madison Co., Arkansas. Sophia was the daughter of John Mccracken and Mary Buren Kenner. Sophia died April 18, 1915 in Carrollton, Arkanasas, at age 72.

James J. 'Jim' Payne and Sophia Dorcas McCracken had the following child:

3 i. Miller Ann³ Payne was born in Madison Co., Arkansas March 1860. Miller died February 23, 1929 in Kerrville, Texas, at age 68. She married twice. She married Ike Graves date unknown. She married William French Denton July 21, 1873 in Carroll Co., Arkansas. William was born September 8, 1849 in Carrolton, Arkansas. William was the son of Col. Tilford Denton and Mary Sneed. William died August 4, 1887 in Dry Fork, Arkansas, at age 37. (See William French Denton for the continuation of this line.)
